ADORNED
“Adorned served as a multi visual curatorial experience focused on celebrating the beauty, history, meanings, and performative nature of black tattoo artists and the living canvases they construct masterpieces on. Their exhibition served as a reclamation and celebration of artwork on black skin by black artists as a storytelling experience, therapy, and artistic ritual.”

Exploring the cultural aesthetics of hair, tattoo art, body modification, piercings, scarification, tribal face paint and more, Adorned celebrates the ancient history of the body adornment, reveals how the retention of cultural practices, and taboos have shaped our current existence, while also creating space for intentional discussion on the non-acceptance of body art in mainstream culture. Adorned features a living art gallery, live body adornment, live performances, and progressive design.
