Community Build The Block Party

  • 1712 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard New Orleans, LA 70113 (map)

OUR VISION

Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard carries the name of a civil rights leader and community organizer whose legacy of advocacy and self-determination continues to define this corridor. AfroLuxe is envisioned as the next chapter of that legacy — a boutique hotel development built not apart from this community, but shaped by it.

Ashé Cultural Arts Center, the cultural anchor of the Boulevard for over two decades, is leading this effort in partnership with The Dottin-Haley Group, a consulting firm engaged to guide community input, engagement, and information-sharing throughout the process.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROCESS

Before any architectural design decisions are finalized, Ashé and The Dottin-Haley Group are leading a structured, months-long community engagement process. The goal is simple: to gather real input from residents, merchants, cultural organizations, and neighbors, and to let that input directly shape what gets designed.

Engagement will include public events, guided and self-guided feedback activities, an online survey, and direct conversations with corridor stakeholders. Community members will be asked to weigh in on the vision for the Boulevard, hotel design and guest experience, and what should be kept, changed, or reimagined across the project's footprint.

Our first public engagement event will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10am to 4pm, as part of a Labor Day Weekend cookout at Ashé. Community members can also share input anytime through the online survey on this page.

Every voice shared through this process becomes part of the record that guides this project — nothing here is decided yet.
