About the exhibition:
‘KATRINA BABIES’ YOUTH ART EXHIBITION
The exhibition is in conjunction with the long-awaited release of the HBO Original Documentary Katrina Babies, directed by Edward Buckles Jr. Spotlighting young New Orleans artists, the exhibition centers on the overarching themes presented in Katrina Babies–a first-person account of the short-term and long-term devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, as told by young people who were between the ages of 3 and 19 when the levees broke. Through these moving, first-hand accounts, Katrina Babies journeys toward healing, not just from the most destructive storm in U.S. history, but also from the multi-generational traumas of being Black and disenfranchised in America. In the face of systemic racism, government neglect, and the unprocessed pain of family separations, the children of Katrina are left to chart their own path toward healing.
