YOUNG FIERCE CITIZENS

“The vote is precious. It is almost sacred. It is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democracy.”

- John Lewis

Young Fierce Citizens is a capacity-building program that empowers young adults 18 to 25 to become more civically informed and engaged – connecting with elected officials, convening peers, and creating relevant communications and campaigns to create a more just New Orleans.

Communities are stronger and more resilient when youth participate in the imagination and realization of a society they wish to see. Civic engagement and fierce citizenship are powerful tools by which young people can develop the capacity to shape the future of their neighborhoods, communities, and quality of life for themselves and their peers. Engaged citizens can be artisans of equity, playing a critical role in demanding government and public institutions, as well as officials to be more transparent, accountable and effective.

The mission of the Young Fierce Citizens program is to ensure that the youth of New Orleans and other areas of Louisiana have a voice in the future of their communities and country by providing them with civic education and access to voter registration opportunities.
